Announcement – An Exciting Opportunity for Research In

Satellite-Based Quantum Communications

 

Raman Research Institute has invited applications from young aspirants to fulfill the post of Project Engineers. To be eligible for this post, the candidate should possess an excellent & consistent academic track record, core competence, and aptitude for research.

The Quantum Information & Computing (QuIC) lab, RRI is working on a mega project on Quantum Experiments with Satellite Technology (QuEST) in collaboration with UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

The project will focus mainly on the development of quantum communication using satellites. Since algorithmic breakthroughs & the imminent advent of quantum computers pose immense threats to classical key distribution-based communication tools, the quantum key distribution proves to be the best available means of providing information-theoretically secure avenues of secure communications, especially important in strategic sectors like banking and defense.

RRI is currently looking for two appointments at eminent positions within the Quantum Information and Computing lab, Light and Matter Physics group of the Institute. It will be a contractual-based appointment. Upon the recruitment, the candidates will be associated with the Quantum Information and Computing lab, LAMP Group of the Institute - initially for a period of one year, and later with a possible extension up to four years or coterminous with the project (whichever is earlier). The yearly extension will be based on an annual performance review which will be conducted at RRI. The brilliant engineering candidates will work on the development of radiation-hardened, space-qualified detector systems for detection of single photons as well as the development of a time tagger/correlator unit using state of the art, space-qualified Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and take part in the characterization of the aforementioned systems. Also, there would be a probationary period of initial two months.

Remuneration: 

The selected candidates will be eligible for a consolidated remuneration of INR 38,000/- in the first year, INR 40,000/- in the second year & INR 42,000/- in the third year.

Eligibility: 

Age: To be eligible for these posts you should not be more than 30 years as of the closing date of receipt of complete application forms online. Age relaxation will be considered for individuals who hold relevant research experience.

The candidate should have completed B.E / B.Tech with 75% or 7.5 CGPA.

Desired Education:

  • ME/ M.Tech with 75% or 7.5 CGPA with a research project experience.
  • Aptitude for research.
  • Prior hands-on experience in handling Test and measurement instruments (Oscilloscopes, Spectrum analyzer, Signal Generator, etc.)
  • Sound Knowledge of Hardware description languages (Verilog, VHDL, or HLS) and familiar with tools from major FPGA companies.
  • Sound Knowledge of PCB design software.
  • Familiar with programming languages like C, C++, MATLAB, and Python.

General Information: 

  • Individuals who are already working in Government/Semi-Government/PSU/Autonomous Bodies shall submit their applications through the proper channel. 
  • The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates for interview, on the basis of qualification & experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the recruitment advertisement. Just fulfilling the essential & desired qualification doesn’t mean the candidate will be entitled to be called for an interview.
  • Age relaxation will be applicable as per Government of India rules for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Persons with disabilities categories.
  • In exceptional cases, the institute reserves the right to relax any of the above requirements.
