Clearly Understand The GATE Syllabus
The GATE syllabus consists of 10-12 subjects including General Aptitude and Mathematics (common to all branches of Engineering). Understanding the weight-age of the subjects and identify your strengths & weaknesses is an important part of your preparation. Start with subjects in which you are comfortable, easy, and high scoring. Remember to allocate time for every subject. You might have purposely left few topics because you’re not confident or completely unknown to it. However, focus on your strengths and try to grasp as much as possible. General Aptitude and Mathematics carry 30% of the total weightage and the rest 70% is core technical subjects. These two subjects will play an important role in your GATE score and there has to be a GATE preparation strategy for the next four months time. Also, it's important to understand the GATE exam pattern to know the types of questions, marking scheme, area of scoring, exam duration, and other key details of the examination.
General Aptitude may sound weird and but there is no rocket science to crack it. It is easy and it only tests basic aptitude, logical reasoning, and a little bit of English. Practice general Aptitude and mathematics from the past exam question banks, try to understand the question patterns, and gain confidence in these two subjects in the beginning. These 30% marks will help you accelerate your GATE score and secure a spot in the merit list. [Check out
