GATE Exam Full Form stands for ‘Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering’ Exam. It is conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Master’s in Technology (M. Tech) and Ph.D. admissions to top-tier Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other institutes/universities across India. GATE also opens the door for booming career in public sector undertaking and field of research. Some of the established PSUs that use GATE score for hiring include ONGC, HPCL, BHEL, DRDO, BARC, GAIL, SAIL, NHPC, HAL, BEL, etc.
GATE is an All-India exam jointly conducted by the seven IITs - Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee along with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
IIT Kharagpur will conduct the GATE 2022 Exam. The exam conducting body will release the GATE 2022 Exam pattern along with eligibility criteria and exam’s information brochure. GATE 2022 Pattern include the number questions, types of questions and the marking schemes for all the 27papers/subjects for the exam. Candidates who wish to appear for GATE 2022 should familiarize themselves with the GATE paper pattern, entire syllabus and of course marking schemes.
Since candidates are allowed to appear for two papers (only specified set) of the 27 papers, they should carefully make a choice of the papers they wish to appear.
Candidates are advisable to appear in the papers appropriate to the discipline of his or her qualifying degree. However, they are also free to choose any paper according to their future plans based on the GATE eligibility criteria of the institute or university they wish to seek admission.
Usually, GATE doesn’t repeat questions from previous year papers but it concepts will be expected over and again. Thus, it important to solve PYQPs for at least past 10 to 15 years and thoroughly prepare for the concepts.

All the questions will carry 1 or 2 marks For MCQs with 1 mark: 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. For MCQs with 2 marks: 2/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect response. |
Please Note: There won’t be any negative marking for Multiple Select Question (MSQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions.

Note: For 1 Mark MCQs, 1-3 marks are deducted for every wrong answer and For 2 Marks MCQs, 2/3 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. No Marks are deducted for MSQs and NAT questions.
GA is common for all the papers and carry a total of 15 marks.

Subject papers will contain total 55 questions - 25 Questions with 1 mark (sub-total 25 marks) and 30 questions with 2 marks each (sub-total 60 marks). The questions papers will consist of Multiple choice questions and Numerical Answer Type (NAT).
For NAT, choices will not be provided. Candidates will have to enter the answer that would be real number using virtual keypad. An appropriate range will be considered while evaluating the answers, so that candidates are not penalised due to any round-off errors.

The exam conducting authority will release the GATE Paper Pattern 2022 notification on the official site – IIT Kharagpur in the month of July 2021.

Yes, a candidate gets negative marks for every incorrect MCQ. However, there won't be any negative marking in MSQs and NATs-related questions.
The negative marking for 1-mark MCQs will be â…“ marks and the negative marking for 2-marks MCQs is â…” marks.
