GATE is an online-based national level post-graduate entrance exam. It is conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (M. Tech), and direct Ph.D. admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other prestigious universities and institutes across India. GATE is jointly conducted by the seven IITs - Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee along with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
This competitive exam will be conducted for 27 papers/subjects including two new subjects added in 2021 namely – Environmental Science & Engineering (ES) and Humanities & Social Science (XS).
This year, IIT Kharagpur will conduct the GATE 2022 Exam. IIT, Kharagpur will release the GATE 2022 eligibility criteria through an online mode. Also, they would be releasing the GATE 2022 Exam dates in August/September 2021. While the registration process will commence from September 2021.For more details, candidates can visit the official site of IIT, Kharagpur or the official GATE website.
It’s advisable before you apply for GATE 2022 Exam, you should check the eligibility for GATE exam. Ideally, applications from candidates who hold a Bachelor’s Degree from recognized university or institute across India are invited for the exam. Every year few modifications take place and candidates should understand them before applying for the exam. The GATE 2022 eligibility criteria will vary based on the papers they're applying for.
Candidates who will meet the following criteria will be eligible for GATE 2022 Exam. Kindly go through it.
Nationality – You should be Indian national to apply for GATE 2022 Exam. However, candidates from other countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Singapore, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates will also be eligible for the GATE 2022
Age limit – There is no specific age limit suggested by the exam body to appear for the GATE Exam.
Pass Percentage – There are no minimum pass percentage defined by exam body to apply for GATE 2022.
Educational Qualification –
To apply for GATE 2022, a candidate should possess either of the qualification(s) mentioned below. The educational qualification has been relaxed for GATE 2022 Exam – Students who study in 3rd or final year of any undergraduate degree will be eligible for the exam. Also, students who completed degree program approved by government in various disciplines such as Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce or Arts are eligible to appear for the GATE 2022 exam.
Here is the detailed information regarding the GATE eligibility for students:
Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in either Architecture (5-year program) or Naval Architecture (4-year program) or planning (4-year program) are eligible to apply for GATE 2022 Exam.
OR
Candidates appearing in the 3rd year of the above-mentioned 4-year & 5-year degree program can also apply for the exam. (For Instance – The expected year of completion would be 2022 & 2023 respectively).
Candidates who have acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Technology/Engineering (4 years after 10+ 2 or 3 years after Diploma) can apply for GATE 2022.
OR,
Candidates appearing in the 3rd year of the above-mentioned 4-year degree program can also apply for the exam. (For instance, the expected year of completion – 2022).
Besides, candidates who have appear for B.Sc. (Research)/B.S, M.Sc./M.A./MCA or equivalent, Integrated M.E/M.Tech (Post – B.Sc.), Integrated M.Sc./Integrated B.S-M.S and Integrated M.E./M.Tech or Dual Degree (after Diploma or 10+2) are eligible for GATE 2022
For candidates who have obtained or pursuing their qualifying degree from foreign countries such as Nepal, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore are eligible for GATE 2022 – they should have completed/in the final year of their Bachelor's Degree (Duration - four years) in Engineering or Technology OR they should have completed/in the final year of their Post Graduate (Master’s) degree (for a period of at least 2 years), in any science related subjects.
Candidates who have qualified for the professional exams equivalent to engineering degree exams (such as B.E./ B. Tech. / B. Pharma) organized by professional societies in India ( like The Institutions of Engineers, The Institutions of Civil Engineers, The Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers, The Aeronautical Society of India, The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group, The Indian Institute of Metals, The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers which are approved by MHRD/AICTE/UGC/UPSC) will be eligible for GATE 2022 Exam.

Yes! You can apply for GATE Exam if you are from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, and United Arab Emirates (U.A.E)
As per the new eligibility for GATE Exam, candidates have the option to appear for 1 or 2 papers in GATE 2022. And candidates will have to select the second paper from the given set of combinations. The combination will be mentioned in the information brochure released by IIT Kharagpur.
From 2021, the exam authority has introduced changes in the GATE exam. Students who study in the 3rd or final year of any undergraduate degree will also be eligible for the exam.
No! There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the GATE exam. Also, there is no such criterion on the age limit to appear for the GATE exam.
The final year candidates need to get a Certificate from their HOD/Institute and must be uploaded along with the application form.
No! Category certificates will only help you to avail concession in the GATE application fee. As per criteria, SC/ST/ PwD candidates and all women candidates will be eligible for application fee concession.
Yes! From the previous year, even commerce & arts candidates are eligible to apply for GATE. If candidates fulfill the rest of the GATE eligibility criteria, they can attempt the exam.
No! HSC marks will not be considered for the GATE Exam 2022.
