Known earlier as Thapar University, the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 1956. It gained ‘Deemed to be University’ status in 1985. It is one of the oldest and finest educational institutes in the country.

The University has a campus covering 250 acres in Patiala, Punjab. Founded with an aim to provide close interaction between education and industry, the university has always emphasized applied research.
