The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 1989 by the Government of India at Sangrur, Punjab. The campus is aesthetically designed and is spread over an area of 451 acres. It was previously affiliated to Punjab Technical University and later was accorded the ‘Deemed to be University’ status in 2007-08. Initially, the Institute started with certificate and diploma programs. Later it started under-graduate degree courses and took up research with the task of imparting instructions at the post-graduate level. The vision of SLIET is to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics through education, entrepreneurship, and research in order to meet the changing needs of society. The University has its mission to provide non-formal, flexible, modular, multipoint entry programs in engineering and technology, and in areas like rural development, educational planning, and information and management sciences. It is committed to provide the best possible technical education to students and to cater to the technical manpower requirements in the industry with an emphasis on practical training.
