The Panjab University has its roots in the University of Punjab established in 1882 at Lahore in Punjab, Pakistan. After the partition, it was split in two, and the Indian segment was renamed the Panjab University. One of the oldest universities in the country, the Panjab University has 78 teaching and research departments, and 188 affiliated colleges. Spread over 550 acres, the university campus was designed by Swiss French Architect Pierre Jeanneret. The University has its mission to provide education in Arts, Letters, Science and the learned professions, and to further the advancement of learning and promote research.
