Chemical engineering is the type of engineering, which influences vast areas of technology. In simpler terms, chemical engineers conceive and design the process to produce, convert, and transport materials. It begins in the laboratory where experiments take place, then it is followed by implementing the process on a large scale in the industry.

Recent years have seen a rising demand for Chemical engineers due to the increase in number of industries depending on conceiving and processing various materials and chemicals. This has opened a new course of career options for chemical engineers which traditionally used to work in oil, energy and chemical industries. However, in today’s time, you will see chemical engineers working in environmental engineering, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and electronic device fabrication. Due to their unique skill set in production, chemical engineers have also become essential in industries which require the physical or chemical design of matter.

Eligibility Criteria


  •         Under Graduate (UG) - The candidate should pass with at least 50% marks in their class XII or the equivalent CGPA in a science major.
  •         Post Graduate (PG)- The candidate should have at least 60% of marks (first class) in their Under Graduation with Engineering major. If the grading system has CPI, then the candidate should have a minimum CPI of 6.5.


What does a Chemical Engineer do?


Chemical Engineering teaches students how they can create new materials with specific physical properties like a polymer with electrical or optical advantage. So, as a chemical engineer, your job is not only to create the polymer in the lab but to create it in a way that it could be produced on a large scale easily and cheaply.

Similarly, Chemical engineers also design the production facilities that use various enzymes and micro-organisms to conceive new drugs. Recently, with newly added courses in Chemical engineering, students can also develop various effluent treatment facilities and catalytic converters to reduce the release of harmful products in the environment.
