Behaviour of Inductor for Ac and Dc Sources



Ideally, the inductors behaves as a short circuit for the dc and behaves as a open circuit for ac. Generally, it allows dc and opposes ac. Figure 1.6 shows the behaviour of the inductor at ideal condition.

The induced emf is represented in time domain by the equation (14). Similarly, the in frequency domain the induced emf is represented by

Where X_L  is the reactance of the inductor measured in ohms and f is the frequency in Hz.
