Junction Field Effect Transistor (JFET):
The JFET is a 3 terminal device and the terminals are called:
Source (S)
Drain (D) and
Gate (G)
The symbolic representation of the JFET is shown in Figure 2 below.
The terminal Source may be considered as equivalent to the Emitter of a BJT, Drain may be considered as equivalent to Collector and the Gate terminal may be considered as equivalent to Base terminal of the BJT. But it may be noted that there is no Gate current flow in the JFET unlike in a BJT where there is a Base current flow across the device.
