Electrical Engineering - Courses, Subjects, Exams & Scope

Every piece of technology which runs electricity needs the expertise and sound knowledge of electrical engineers. From designing microphones to monster machines or slim smartphones that you carry in your pockets; all need the expertise of an electrical engineer. Thus, it’s one of the most interesting occupations; however, it can be quite technically challenging and need a great deal of mathematics and physics knowledge. This job offers unique opportunities for individuals especially in this technologically innovative world to design and manufacture devices that people use most frequently in their day-to-day lives.
What Is Electrical Engineering?
Electrical engineering is one of the prominent and most important branches of engineering that deals with the application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism concepts. Being an electrical engineer, you will design electric circuits and innovative equipment.  You can be working on projects as small as designing a chipset to as mega as building a power system for power plants. Thus, your elevation of work would range from designing, manufacturing, and operating power plants, industrial machinery, electrical motors, computer chips, and automobile ignition systems, aircraft, space crafts, and all kinds of engines.
Today, electrical engineering has spread across a range of specialties such as robotics and machines, artificial intelligence, signal processing to electromagnetism, automobile to remote sensing, laser techniques to ultra-sonic, and much more.
A qualified electrical engineer has the option to choose his or her work in fields like computers, electronic gadgets, navigation systems, power plants, construction sectors, etc. The average salary for fresh electrical engineer graduates is INR 3-4 lakh and above.
In India, there are top-tier institutes/universities that offer Electrical engineering as one of the mainstream disciplines at the UG and PG level, that will help you attain B. Tech and M. Tech degrees respectively.
Once you pursue B.Tech in electrical engineering and appear for the GATE exam, there are various avenues open for you. Firstly, you can apply for M.Tech programs that will eventually lead you to Better job opportunities, Higher pay packages, Subject specialization, and a Handsome stipend.
Secondly, one of the most exciting opportunities would be, various PSUs in India hire Electrical engineers through the GATE examination, thereby giving them a chance to settle down for a dream career.
With a conducive work environment, good pay & incentives, and other amenities, PSU provides a promising future for individuals. Some of the top PSUs in India that hire through GATE include BHEL, HPCL, DRDO, NPCIL, SAIL, BARC, Powergrid, and more. Other than PSU hiring, after M. Tech you can further pursue your career in Ph.D. research wherein you will be paid a stipend and later get recruited as professors or HOD in various prestigious universities and institutes across India. You can also secure jobs in the research wing of various government or private organizations.
Thus, Electrical engineering is a prominent part of various industries and it's divided into various sub-disciplines. Most Electrical engineers choose to specialize in the below-mentioned sub-disciplines of Electrical engineering in our blog. The sub-discipline that Electrical engineers pursue will determine the type of work they do.
